Above and Below is the latest solo exhibition of paintings by landscape artist, Wendi Reis. This exhibition explores the beauty of nature both above and below the waterline.
The turquoise waters of the Great Barrier Reef and its diversity of amazing plants, corals and sea creatures are captured on canvas in rich hypnotic colours.
These paintings, which demand the viewer’s attention, create an atmosphere of peace and serenity.
Closer to home is a group of seascapes of the northern Wollongong area.
Bright umbrellas, children building sandcastles and adults bathing bring these paintings to life. These paintings are a reminder of happy times of sun filled days spent at the beach.
It is rare that one of these paintings does not include someone walking their dog. The artist, who runs a small animal shelter for homeless animals,
realizes in her paintings the important role that animals play in our lives.
Colourful parrots, which include rainbow lorikeets, king parrots and crimson rosellas,
perch in grevilleas and gum trees. The kookaburra, a lovable Aussie icon, also features in this exhibition. Ms Reis’ paintbrush brings her subjects to life so much so
that you almost expect them to fly out of the paintings.

The artist says that her favourite painting in this exhibition is a large stretched canvas of two
Eclectus parrots portrayed in their natural environment. The artist states,” It took many weeks of challenging but enjoyable work. Then again, as I am painting, each one becomes my favourite!”
Forget global warming and the GFC for an hour or two and visit this exhibition that celebrates the beauty that is all around us.
The exhibition begins on Saturday, 1st October and runs throughout the month.
All sales from paintings go towards the feeding and care of abandoned and homeless animals.
